Abstract

Biological wastewater treatment to reduce organic matter content using microbiology. Activated Sludge is suspended growth biological treatment, and Trickling Filter is attached growth biological treatment for wastewater. Slaughter house wastewater mostly discharge directly into surface water body without treatment. This research is carried out in order to know comparison of efficiency biological treatment between Activated Sludge and Trickling Filter to treat slaughter house wastewater. Thislaboratory research scale is carried out at ITATS Environmental Engineering laboratory. Laboratory scale reactor for Activated Sludge with 6,5 liter total volume and 5 liter effective volume. Microbiology seed taken from oxidation ditch unit, SIER Surabaya WWTP. Trickling Filter reactor made from glass with 0,5 cm thick, square, 40cm x 40cm x 40cm size with 1cm – 2cm size media stone. Research result shows that slaughter house wastewater treatment with either Activated Sludge and Trickling Filter have high efficiency, 89% and 87% eachs.
