ABSTRACT
A properly welding parameters’ choice determine the result, such as current and grove. That was
caused by the differences of current and grove which resulted of different heat flow so it was affected by
hardness on the weld metal. The SMAW welding is the arc welding with shielded electrode by flux, where the
flux as a shield of weld metal. The research of the effect of current and groove of SMAW to the hardness and
macrostructure for stainless steel material AISI 304 was obtained the maximum hardness of HAZ was 270.43
kg/mm 2 and the weld metal was 283.99 kg/mm 2 using double V-joint and 130 A of current. The higher current
given, the harder weld metal got. That was affected by the effect of heat input that happened on the weld
metal during welding process.
